Origins of the Mini British Open
The Mini 1.3 MPI British Open is a very special version, appearing at the end of the classic Mini's career. Produced in the late 1990s, it combined the 1275 multi-point injection (MPI) engine with the specific equipment of the British Open series, including the full-width canvas sunroof. Unlike the carbureted British Opens of the early 1990s, which were widely distributed in several markets, this MPI version was mainly reserved for Germany, one of Rover's main markets at the time.
It is this limited distribution, added to the low production volume and the usual fragility of the bodies in the face of corrosion, which explains why the Cooper MPI British Open is today much rarer to find than its carbureted counterparts. It thus embodies one of the last “collector” Minis, combining the charm of special editions with the most accomplished technical evolution of the classic range.
Our model
Dressed in its original British Racing Green, it is distinguished by a cream leather interior of rare softness and patina.
A perfect harmony, typical of the late 90s, when the Mini bowed out elegantly.
This car has had only one owner since it was delivered new in 1998!
It now shows 41,000 original km and comes with a complete historical file: purchase invoice, maintenance records, overhauls… everything has been kept and carefully filed.
Such rigorous monitoring over more than 25 years has become exceptional.
Inside, everything exudes respect for the original: preserved upholstery, flawless woodwork, functional sunroof.
On the road, it retains that very special Mini feel: precise, lively, communicative.
A British Open in this condition, with this level of traceability, is an opportunity that we almost never encounter anymore.
A sincere car, with a clear history, ready to write the next chapter of its life.
