History of the model
The Mini Van is a true icon of the automotive landscape, launched in 1960 to offer a compact and economical transport solution based on Alec Issigonis's famous saloon car. Built on a chassis lengthened by 24 centimeters, it sacrifices the rear side windows and the bench seat in favor of a surprising cargo volume, accessible via two characteristic swing doors.
In 1975, these utility vehicles were ubiquitous on the streets of the UK! Their robustness and maneuverability made them a favorite work tool for tradespeople, but the Mini Van truly became legendary thanks to its iconic red livery in service with the Royal Mail. It also equipped the fleets of British Telecom and the Automobile Association, proving that its simple design could withstand intensive daily use. Although more spartan than the passenger version, it now exudes an irresistible retro charm, making it a sought-after collector's item or a distinctive advertising medium for enthusiasts.
Our model
Complete restoration and full preparation in the style of Écurie Ecosse – 1460 forged engine
Under the hood, it's clearly a race car configuration adapted for the road:
– 1460 cm³ block, fully forged (reinforced crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons)
– ARDEN 8-port high-efficiency cylinder head
– Jenvey injection with individual throttle bodies, for very precise fuel delivery and immediate response to acceleration
– Dog-clutch gearbox, with crisp and ultra-direct gear changes
– Optimized cooling (aluminum radiator, careful assembly)
– Engine bay completely refurbished: hoses, wiring, peripherals… everything is clean, functional and built to last
The running gear is at the same level as the mechanical components:
– Front and rear axles completely overhauled, with full adjustments (camber, caster, toe)
– Large 4-piston KAD front brakes, braided brake lines
– Rally suspension cones, Hi-Lo kit, sport shock absorbers, etc.
Here again, all the elements are new or recent, assembled with a real concern for consistency and efficiency.
The result is an extremely lively, precise and sound van, with a very typical “competition” character while remaining usable on the road.
For an enthusiast looking for a truly exclusive Mini, with high-level engine/chassis preparation and a clear Ecurie Ecosse spirit, this is clearly a unique opportunity.
