Origins of the Mini Van

Originally introduced by Austin in 1960, the Mini Van was based on the same platform as the Mini launched a year earlier, but with a longer wheelbase and taller bodywork to increase cargo space. These early models were designed as light commercial vehicles for small tradespeople and craftsmen.

In the 1980s, the Mini Van was still a popular utility vehicle, particularly with the Royal Mail who took advantage of its versatility. Indeed, its manoeuvrability and small size made it ideal for urban mail delivery, allowing it to navigate traffic and park easily. Furthermore, its ability to carry equipment made the work of Royal Mail technicians easier, making it a versatile and efficient tool.

Completely restored in 2016 from the bare body down to the smallest screw, this Mini Van is ready to hit the road. This meticulous restoration has brought this classic back to life, while also providing some notable improvements.

Under the hood, the original 1000cc engine has been replaced by a 1275cc unit, from a Mini Cooper, now developing 65hp. This modification offers much better driving pleasure and a very pleasant ride. The gearbox has also been completely restored to adapt to this new engine.

The interior has not been left out. The black sky upholstery is new, offering optimal comfort with a period look. At the rear, custom-made wooden storage has been fitted, adding a touch of practicality, ideal for a craftsman or an individual wishing to use this utility vehicle on a daily basis.
